The history of the "Penny Farthing"

The bike "Penny Farthing" was designed and built in 1866 by a Frenchmen named Lallement. In 1867, an Englishman, R. Turner, introduced the high wheeler to England and renamed it the Penny Farthing after the British coins, penny/farthing. Although the trend was short-lived, the penny-farthing became a symbol of the late Victorian era. Its popularity also coincided with the birth of cycling as a sport.
